One of the most beautifully situated castles, Eilean Donan was built part in the 13th & 14th centuries. Robert the Bruce was sheltered here in 1306. In 1331, Randolph, Earl of Moray executed 50 men here and adorned the castle walls with their severed heads. During the Jacobite uprising of 1719, the castle was blown up from within by 3 frigates firing cannons. Although ruinous, it was completely rebuilt in the 20th century.
